Our Mission

Anyone.

Anytime.

Anywhere.

We are an all-volunteer Search and Rescue team dedicated to saving lives in the backcountry of Ouray County in Southwestern Colorado. Our 30-member team dedicates over 2,000 hours to monthly team trainings and 30+ search and rescue missions each year.

In addition to providing search and rescue services, we also promote backcountry safety through community education and outreach events.

See below for more information.

World Class Skills

Ouray Mountain Rescue is widely recognized as an elite technical rescue team. We train continuously on high-angle rigging, wilderness medicine, avalanche searches, swift water rescues, and many other technical skills. We also won a national Search and Rescue award for completing the most inspirational rescue of 2021.

Technology & Equipment

We use cutting-edge technology and equipment to continuously improve our mission efficiency and rescuer safety. We operate multiple backcountry vehicles equipped with specialty winches and haul systems, and we also use cell phone forensics, digital mapping, satellite imagery, and air support from helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft.
